Book Club Update

The book for April is "The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd

Tonia is hosting it at her house on April 10th.

The Bingham Creek Library confirmed this week that they have 8 out of the 10 books reserved for us.  The sisters can pick them up from the holds area marked "book club."

The deets from the Gardening Class

I think I can speak for everyone when I say, "Bring on Spring!!!"  Our sweet Sis. Oler was kind enough to put this presentation together for our benefit.  And people, she knows her stuff!  The following slides will help you get going on the garden of your dreams.  There are preliminary plans to continue our little green thumb's series with other super important tips on landscaping, canning, and other basic home-making skills that have been lost with time.
Please feel free to leave us comments about how our special interest groups are going and if you have any suggestions for how we can serve you better!  Enjoy!

Red & White Mostaccioli Recipe

Hey thanks for swinging by!  I'm sure you're here to check out all the cool features of our ward's Relief Society blog & become a follower, not to get the recipe for the scrumptious Italian pasta dish we all devoured at our last activity, right????

Red & White Mostaccioli (as found in "The Food Nanny Rescues Dinner")

10-12 servings

1 pound uncooked mostaccioli or other tubular pasta
1 recipe Alfredo sauce (see below)
1 26-ounce jar meatless sauce, divided (see note)
3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

1)  Preheat oven to 350
2)  Cook the pasta according to the package directions; drain, but don't rinse
3)  Meanwhile, prepare the Alfredo sauce
***skip below to see how***
4) Spread a thin layer of spaghetti sauce in a 9x13 baking dish.  Layer half the pasta, half the Alfredo sauce, half the spaghetti sauce, and 1 1/2 cups of the cheese.  Repeat the layering with the remaining pasta, Alfredo sauce, spaghetti sauce, and top with remaining cheese.
5)  Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 30 minutes or until it's hot and bubbly
*Serve with a tossed green salad and Italian or French bread!

Note: You may use meat sauce or meatless.  Could this recipe make an awesome FREEZER MEAL? (hint, hint) Let us know if you try it!

Alfredo Sauce

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
3 oz. cream cheese
1 pint heavy cream
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Salt & Pepper

1)  Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat.  Mix in the cream cheese.  Stir in the cream and garlic powder.  Increase the heat and bring to a boil.  Decrease the heat and simmer, stirring often.  If the sauce needs additional thickening, you may sprinkle in flour, 1 teaspoon at a time.  Cook and stir for desired consistency.
2)  Stir the Parmesan cheese into the sauce and season with salt and pepper to taste.
